Meet Vernisha
Vernisha Chambers Douglas, MSN, CRNP, PMHNP-BC
Founder, MHMATTERS365 LLC (Mental Health Matters 365)
I'm Vernisha Chambers Douglas, MSN, CRNP, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and founder of MHMATTERS365 LLC (Mental Health Matters 365).
My journey in healthcare began in 2015 after graduating from Troy University, but my passion for mental health was shaped by much more than a degree.
For nine years, I had the honor of serving America's heroes through the Department of Veterans Affairs. Caring for Veterans taught me the importance of listening beyond the symptoms, recognizing the weight people carry, and treating every patient with dignity, compassion, and respect.
My career later brought me into spaces where the need for mental health care was impossible to ignore. Working with vulnerable and underserved populations, including youth involved in the juvenile justice system, opened my eyes to what can happen when mental health concerns go untreated, resources are limited, and families do not know where to turn.
I saw children struggling who needed help long before they entered a system.
I saw families searching for providers who would accept their insurance.
I saw people waiting too long for appointments, struggling to find medication
management, and feeling discouraged by barriers that had nothing to do with how badly they needed care

And one thing became very clear to me:
Mental health does not care about the size of your paycheck. Anxiety does not ask what you earn. Depression does not check your insurance card.
Trauma does not care about your ZIP code, your title, your education, or where you come from.
Mental health can affect anyone, and I believe quality care should be accessible to everyone. That belief is what pushed me outside of my comfort zone and led me to create MHMATTERS365 LLC (Mental Health Matters 365).
Today, I provide psychiatric evaluations and medication management for children, adolescents, and adults, with a special commitment to increasing access for individuals and families who have historically struggled to obtain mental health services. In Alabama, our practice proudly works to serve families covered by Medicaid and ALL Kids, while continuing to expand access across the lifespan.
I am also licensed in Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, and Washington, allowing me to extend mental health services beyond my local community and reach individuals in multiple states.
My approach is simple: I want my patients to feel heard, respected, understood, and included in their care. I do not believe a diagnosis tells a person's entire story. I look at the whole person - their experiences, family, environment, challenges, strengths, goals, and the life they want to build.
MHMATTERS365 was created from a belief that has become both my mission and my purpose:
Mental health matters 365 days a year.
Not only during a crisis.
Not only when life becomes unbearable.
Not only when someone can afford to pay out of pocket.
Every day. Every age. Every background. Every person.
My mission is to continue breaking down barriers, expanding access, and creating a mental health practice where children, teens, adults, and families know they matter.Because sometimes changing a life starts with something as simple as giving someone a place where
they finally feel heard.

Why MHMATTERS365 Exists
MHMATTERS365 was born during a season of deep reflection—a time when I was confronted with the reality of how much unkindness and pain exists in the world, and how often that pain goes unaddressed.
I kept thinking about all the people who are struggling, who are hurting, who are acting out of their own unmet needs—and how easy it is for the world to respond with judgment instead of compassion.
"Hurting people need understanding, not criticism. They need support, not shame. And they need someone willing to sit with them in their pain without trying to rush them through it."
— Vernisha Douglas, Founder
That realization became the foundation of this practice. I wanted to create a space where mental health care feels human—where we recognize that behaviors often reflect unmet needs, not character flaws, and where healing isn't one-size-fits-all.
At MHMATTERS365, we believe that mental health matters every single day—not just when things reach a crisis point. And we're committed to providing care that reflects that belief.
